Seattle Sounders FC signed defender Alex Roldan to a new contract Tuesday afternoon.
Roldan, 23, entered the league as a midfielder in 2018 but has been training as a right back throughout preseason. Both he and Kelvin Leerdam are currently the best-suited players on the team’s roster to play the position.
Terms of the deal, including length and compensation, were not disclosed. Roldan’s last guaranteed salary was $57,225 annually, according to figures released by the MLS Players Association.
“We’re excited to bring back Alex for another season in Seattle and see how he does at a new position,” Sounders FC general manager Garth Lagerwey said in a statement.
