Doug Nichols, who was entering his 12th season as head football coach at Kissimmee Osceola High, has confirmed he will be stepping down effective immediately.
Nichols, who informed assistant coaches and players of his decision in separate meetings Monday, did not cite a specific reason for his decision, saying, “It’s just time.”
“It’s just something that’s kind of come and gone,” Nichols said. “It’s probably one of the hardest [decisions] I’ve ever made.”
Nichols said he talked with his wife, Diane, about the decision, but ultimately it was left up to him.
“We talked about it, but my wife wasn’t going to encourage me one way or the other.
