Orlando City holds off Sporting KC, extends unbeaten streak

During a physical, sometimes messy 2-1 victory over Sporting Kansas City Wednesday night, the Lions recorded their third consecutive road win. The team is now riding a seven-game unbeaten streak, the longest in club history.

During the past two weeks, Pareja had a simple goal for Orlando City (7-2-4, 25 points) — increase its finishing efficiency in the final third. The Lions were stringing together beautiful combinations and chances, but they didn’t always translate to goals.

In Kansas City, the Lions delivered. The team took three shots in the first half. Two of them were goals.

With Sporting KC (6-5-2, 20) pressing aggressively on its home pitch, the Lions preyed on the backline by slipping long passes to streaking runners to create one-on-one opportunities in the box.
