Orlando City lost one player in the 2017 MLS Expansion Draft Tuesday: defender Mikey Ambrose.
Ambrose, 23, was selected in the fourth round by Atlanta United FC. The left back was signed to an MLS contract midseason after succeeding with Orlando City B in USL. He competed with Luke Boden for playing time, earning four starts in five appearances for 405 minutes by the end of the year.
Orlando City opted not to pick up the option on Boden's contract, showing faith in Ambrose's potential. Orlando City will have to go after multiple players at that position during the offseason to fill the void, especially with the inconsistency of former starter Brek Shea this year, who eventually was moved from left back to midfield.
