Orlando Christian Prep basketball claims 9th FHSAA championship

LAKELAND – Orlando Christian Prep started slowly, maybe sleepily, but came on strong midway through its boys basketball state championship game to beat Jacksonville Impact Christian 51-32 on Saturday morning.

The Warriors, woken at 7 a.m. from their Lakeland hotel beds, made just two of their first 10 shot attempts while falling behind in a game that tipped off at 10 o’clock. But OCP finished the second quarter on an 11-1 run to lead 28-21 at the half and pulled away after the break.

The Warriors extended their two-year winning streak to 47-0, an Orlando area record, by winning their ninth state championship in 14 seasons since 2008 team.
