Angel City FC officially joined the NWSL on Tuesday, taking the next step in a business plan that was first unveiled during the summer.
Angel City FC’s ownership group already featured an unprecedented level of clout to the league. The club was founded by actress Natalie Portman, venture capitalist Kara Nortman and club president Julie Uhrman. The original investor group included major names such as former U.S. women’s national team star Abby Wambach and tennis star Serena Williams, her daughter Olympia, and her husband, Reddit founder Alexis Ohanian.
The club announced an additional set of owners on Tuesday, including tennis star Billie Jean King and her long-time partner Ilana Kloss, WNBA star Candace Parker and her daughter and other prominent athletes such as Lindsey Vonn, PK Subban and Cobi Jones.
