New UM assistants Robinson, Shoop making impact; QB Tyler Van Dyke impresses early in spring

It’s a new-look defensive coaching staff in Coral Gables as the Miami Hurricanes began spring football practices on Monday.

One reason UM coach Manny Diaz felt he could handle the dual responsibility of defensive coordinator is because of the support he has with other defensive coaches on the staff — one being new defensive backs coach Travaris Robinson, who has coordinator experience over the past five seasons at South Carolina.

Miami safeties got their first sense of what practice is like under Robinson, commonly known as “T-Rob,” instead of previous safeties coach Ephraim Banda, who left the Hurricanes in the offseason for a defensive coordinator opportunity at Utah State.
