Mount Dora, Trinity Prep score first wins in playoff games | Football Roundup

But both teams remain alive in the revamped Florida High School Athletic Association state playoff system after posting play-in victories on Friday night.

Mount Dora scored a wild 47-44 home win against Lake County rival Eustis in a Class 5A game. The Hurricanes came in with an 0-6 record that included a 56-42 loss to the Panthers (3-4) on Oct. 2.

Trinity Prep, which was 0-5 in the regular season, was actually a favorite against also-winless Cornerstone Charter in a Class 3A playoff game and the Saints took care of business in a 44-0 shutout victory.

The FHSAA revised its playoff format, allowing all teams signed up to qualify for the playoffs, regardless of win-loss record, as a means of reducing the negative impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
