Miami Dolphins host pass rusher Melvin Ingram on free-agent visit

The selection of former University of Miami standout Jaelan Phillip in the first-round of the 2021 NFL draft hasn’t ended Miami’s pursuit of pass rushing help.

Following the team’s first week of on-field work the Dolphins brought in veteran defensive end Melvin Ingram, a South Florida native, for a visit on Monday according to a league source.

Ingram, who has started 96 games for the Chargers over the course of his nine seasons, is still a free agent, primarily because of a knee injury he suffered in late November, and has been rehabilitating.

Last season Ingram, who just completed a four-year, $66 million contract, struggled with injuries, but started all seven games he played in 2020, contributing 10 tackles, one interceptions in the 362 defensive snaps he played before going on injured reserve.
