The Dolphins have hired Steve Ferentz — son of longtime Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz — as a coaching assistant and former NFL running back Kolby Smith as their offensive quality control coach, according to ESPN.

Smith was a fifth-round pick of the Kansas City Chiefs in 2007, rushing for 540 yards and three touchdowns on 162 carries in 27 games (nine starts). The former Louisville standout also spent time with the Denver Broncos and Jacksonville Jaguars, but didn’t play in any games.
