A Melbourne resident competes in an upcoming episode of Discovery’s “ultimate driving fantasy” challenge, “Getaway Driver.”

“It was jaw-dropping, something you don’t get to experience normally,” said Nick Rodriguez, a junkyard manager at Melbourne’s Branif Used Auto Parts, owned by his father.

In this eight-episode series hosted by Michelle Rodriguez of “Fast & Furious” fame, 24 drivers — from drift champions to street racers and YouTubers — strive to outdrive the competition. Described as “part ‘Baby Driver,’ part ‘Grand Theft Auto,’” participants use their own vehicles to evade pursuers and escape the compound with a cash prize in this made-for-TV car chase.
