Lake Brantley has boys water polo MVP; DP has No. 1 team

The Panthers beat backyard rival Olympia 15-14 in their district tournament final on a goal with five seconds to go. Then they did pretty much the same thing in a state quarterfinal, beating Boca Raton by the exact same score on a goal with just four seconds remaining.

Those thrillers vaulted DP to the FHSAA final four where it finished state runners-up behind Miami Gulliver Prep (25-0) and No. 1 in this year’s Orlando Sentinel Super Six team rankings (below). The Panthers’ 17-3 season also earned the Florida Dairy Farmers state coach of the year honor for DP’s Leo Ramirez.
