SAN DIEGO — Every five days, Jacob deGrom’s excellence speaks for itself. His brilliant outing against one of the best offenses in the National League was just another such example.
The two-time Cy Young award winner outshined every other athlete on the field in the Mets’ 4-0 win over the Padres on Saturday night, despite San Diego’s own superstar Fernando Tatis Jr. competing on his home turf. DeGrom struck out 11 Padres — fanning at least 10 batters for the 50th time in his career — and pitched seven shutout innings across 85 pitches to pick up his fifth win of the year.
