MONTREAL — Following the MLS player option deadline, Montreal Impact sporting director Olivier Renard held a news conference to explain his club’s roster moves.
The Impact announced that its two star players, Ignacio Piatti and Samuel Piette, would be back in 2020 after Renard exercised both players’ options.
In Piatti’s case, the situation seemed clear as club president and CEO Kevin Gilmore tweeted his intensions to keep Piatti back in July. However, Piatti’s sudden decision to skip the club’s end-of-season media day left the situation up for debate.
“I had a half-hour conversation that was cordial,” Renard said of his discussion with Piatti that day.
