Hurricanes looking to be more physical and work on the basics after slow start to season

After watching the film from the Miami Hurricanes’ 38-17 loss to Michigan State on Saturday, coach Manny Diaz came to many conclusions. One of them: UM needs to play with more physicality.

In that loss to the Spartans, Miami (1-2) finished with a season-high 30 missed tackles, according to Pro Football Focus. The Hurricanes have 66 missed tackles through three games after having less than half — 116, according to 247 Sports — as many missed tackles last season in 11 games.

UM’s struggles with bringing offensive players down to the ground led to Diaz saying there are going to be changes in how the team practices this week ahead of the Hurricanes’ final non-conference matchup versus Central Connecticut State, an FCS program, on Saturday at Hard Rock Stadium.
