Gary Sanchez saved Aroldis Chapman and the Yankees twice in the ninth inning Wednesday night. The controversial catcher made a tremendous block on a spiked pitch as the Bombers’ closer was imploding in the top of the ninth. Then in the bottom of the inning, Sanchez gave the Bombers new life with a game-tying home run.
That set-up Luke Voit’s walk-off single in the Yankees’ 6-5 win over the Royals in front of 25,032 at Yankee Stadium.
It was the 20th come-from-behind win of the year for the Yankees (39-34) and their seventh out of their last eight games.
