If you’ve watched more episodes of “Star Trek: The Next Generation” and “Star Trek: Voyager” than any functioning adult should have, then you know the Q Continuum is a collective of omnipotent superbeings — one in particular with a mischievous bent — that can tweak reality on a whim.
A quick aside: I recently tried to explain this concept to one of my friends in fantasy football, podcaster Ryan Poirier of London, Ontario, who listened quietly, mouth slightly agape, as it dawned on him just how old my pop-culture references are. It was akin to Spider-Man telling Iron Man about one of those “really old movies,” only in reverse.
