He should have either kept coaching at UCF or, more profitably, taken the Florida Gators job that eventually went to Dan Mullen.
Instead, he is now at Nebraska, heading into his fourth season and sitting on one of the most scorching, scalding hot seats in college football.
Bill Moos, the Nebraska athletics director who hired Frost, suddenly and shockingly stepped down a few days ago, presumably at the behest of his university superiors who were obviously unimpressed with the job Moos did during his lackluster four-year tenure.
To think, Moos was hailed as a Husker hero during his first couple of months on the job in 2017 when he reeled in the red-hot Frost, who was on the verge of leading UCF to an undefeated season and a self-proclaimed national championship.
