Dolphins Q&A: What does Isaiah Ford’s trade mean for the rest of the receiver unit?

Here’s the latest installment of our Miami Dolphins Q&A, where South Florida Sun Sentinel writers Safid Deen and Omar Kelly answer questions from readers.

A: Ford, whom the Dolphins traded to the New England Patriots for a 2022 seventh-round pick, was consistently praised as the Dolphins' smartest receiver. And he was the only experienced slot receiver since Albert Wilson and Allen Hurn opted out of playing the 2020 season because of COVID-19.

That made this third-year veteran valuable because not only could he play all three receiver spots, but he was savvy enough to drop into open coverages and deliver first downs for Ryan Fitzpatrick.
