Dolphins bring in two new additions — one a local high school standout — to reach 16 on practice squad

MIAMI GARDENS — The Miami Dolphins filled out their 16-man practice squad on Thursday, and it included the addition of two new names that weren’t with the team during training camp.

Wide receiver and Deerfield Beach High alum Brandon Powell showed up on the Dolphins’ practice squad roster on Thursday, along with offensive lineman Kion Smith.

Powell played for the Florida Gators in college after a standout high school career as a running back at Deerfield Beach.

He was most recently at Buffalo Bills’ training camp before being released on Monday. The Dolphins now have two practice-squad players that were in camp elsewhere in the AFC East after also claiming cornerback Elijah Campbell from the New York Jets.
