Dell Loy Hansen agrees to sell MLS, NWSL and USL teams after racist remarks

Dell Loy Hansen is moving to sell Utah Soccer Holdings, which owns MLS team Real Salt Lake, NWSL team Utah Royals and USL team Real Monarchs, after intense backlash throughout the soccer world.

The decision comes days after The Athletic and the Salt Lake Tribune reported Hansen’s pattern of racist and demeaning behavior during Hansen’s tenure as club owner.

In a statement released by Real Salt Lake, Hansen said the decision came after “deep consideration and soul-searching” throughout the past three days.

“I recognize that at times I have spoken too quickly, without pausing to consider the feelings or good intentions of others,” Hansen wrote.
