Computing future UM scholarship numbers a daunting task; QB Tyler Van Dyke, other freshmen excelling behind the scenes

As the Miami Hurricanes push through the halfway point of the revised 2020 season, there’s a lot of unknown as far as how scholarship numbers will stack up for future seasons since, this year, amid the COVID-19 pandemic, will not be counted against player eligibility.

In other words, any seniors that want to return to college football in 2021 may do so. Juniors now will still be juniors (athletically) in 2021 and so on with sophomores and freshmen. With another freshman class coming in after the 2020 season, the NCAA will allow football teams to exceed the 85-scholarship limit in 2021 to welcome the incoming class while retaining upperclassmen that want to stay.
