COLUMBUS, Oh– The Columbus Crew announced that they have sold centerback Lalas Abubakar to the Colorado Rapids for $400,000 in general allocation money and an international roster spot. Abubakar spent most of the 2019 season on loan with Colorado, and the team made it a top priority in the offseason to bring him back.
Earlier in the offseason, Crew General Manager Tim Bezbatchenko stated that the team expected Abubakar back for the 2020 season. However, he was not a pivotal part of the club’s plans for the upcoming year, and after lengthy negotiations the deal was made final.
