The NWSL will take its next move to Los Angeles as the league announced an expansion team highlighted by celebrity names and former U.S. women’s national team stars on Tuesday.
The club — currently called “Angel City” until it develops an official name, logo and venue — is helmed by a group of mostly women owners. The majority owners include Academy Award-winning actress Natalie Portman, gaming entrepreneur Julie Uhrman and technology venture capitalist Kara Nortman.
Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian — who is also married to tennis star Serena Williams — also helped finance the project through his venture capital firm Initialized Capital.
