Apopka scored touchdowns on its first two possessions and added two field goals in the second half to defeat rival West Orange 18-9 in a Class 8A, Region 2 semifinal game on Friday in Winter Garden.
With the road victory, the Blue Darters (7-3) avenged a 15-14 overtime loss to the Warriors (6-4) in the regular season. In that game, Apopka’s only offensive score came in overtime, but this time, the Blue Darters scored on a pair of touchdown runs by quarterback Jaquan Lowman as he bowled over from the 1-yard line on Apopka’s first possession and then added a score on a 27-yard run early in the second period on Apopka’s second possession.
