After focusing on details and studying playbook more, Hurricanes WR Key’Shawn Smith relishing new role

The moment may have been overshadowed by the disappointment of yet another Miami Hurricanes blowout loss to the nation’s top-ranked program, but there was one play Key’Shawn Smith made against Alabama that stuck with wide receivers coach Rob Likens.

With UM down 27-0 and facing a fourth-and-10 from its own 45 with 20 seconds left until halftime, Miami lined up in shotgun formation with quarterback D’Eriq King calling for the ball and dropping back to UM’s 35 before firing a pass in between three Crimson Tide defenders to find an outstretched Smith at Alabama’s 40.

Smith caught the pass, came down with the ball and gained an extra five yards before being brought down to the ground at Alabama’s 35.
