Another early enrollee, Smith will get an early start on learning the Beavers’ defensive system. He was a backfield terror in Miami, recording 34 sacks over his last two high-school seasons.
"For his size, he's a long-levered guy that can play in space," said running backs coach Telly Lockette, who recruited Smith. "In this league, if you don't have defenders that can cover in space, you're gonna be in for a long year. He kind of helps us in that area, bringing a longer guy that can cover in space and runs well."
Signing Day has come and gone, with Gary Andersen completing his first full recruiting cycle by inking a class ranked 41st nationally by Rivals.
