CORVALLIS – Oregon State head coach Gary Andersen was blunt in his assessment of the Beavers' offensive and defensive progress after their scrimmage in Hillsboro on Saturday.
Andersen said the defense was ahead of the offense, as was evident by the way receivers often had trouble getting off the line against press coverage. On Tuesday, defensive coordinator Kevin Clune said he had seen growth from the secondary, highlighting sophomore cornerback Dwayne Williams, but that the group had yet to become a "great cohesive unit."
The secondary picture is far from complete, with four-star recruits Shurod Thompson and Christian Wallace expected to come into fall camp at safety and cornerback, respectively.
