ERIE, Colo. – Spencer Tibbits had a great start to his college career, as he led the Oregon State men's golf team on the opening day of the Mark Simpson Invitational.
Tibbits, a freshman from Vancouver, Wash., shot a bogey-free 4-under 68 in his first collegiate round and followed that with an even-par 72 in the afternoon to put him in a tie for ninth place with a 4-under 140.
The Beavers sit in fifth place in the 20-team field with a 5-under 285-286--571 at the par-72, 7,676-yard Colorado National Golf Club.
