I think Arizona Daily Star columnist Greg Hansen is spot-on with his take about a proposal from the NCAA Division I Council to hand major college football coaching staffs a 10th full-time assistant.
Here is Hansen's column. It's worth a read.
He notes how football coaching staffs have mushroomed in the past half century. He points out college football's bloated bureaucracy now includes positions such as senior offensive and defensive analyst, which don't count against the nine-assistant limit.
Athletic departments struggle to break even. Most don't. But that doesn't slow down the willingness of universities to throw more money at their football programs.
