Ten months after QB son's death, Kym Hilinski says attending games still "too painful"

Kym Hilinski talks for more than a half hour by phone and doesn't break down. But there's sadness in her voice.

Nearly 10 months have passed since her son Tyler, a sophomore quarterback at Washington State, took his life in his Pullman apartment. Time doesn't make it any easier for Kym, her husband Mark or their children Ryan and Kelly.

But if Kym can help another child and family avert what the Hilinskis have endured this past year, all will not be lost. Earlier this year, the Hilinskis founded Hilinski's Hope, a foundation with a mission of eliminating shame from mental illness disease among student-athletes.
