When Jay Schaake flipped on his television to watch college football last fall, he was surprised as vague memories quickly flooded back.
The former Oregon State assistant has been out of coaching since 1995. Yet from his Corvallis home, the mannerisms of a certain purple-clad signal-caller reminded him of a certain even-keel personality he once trained.
"In the back of my mind, I'm going, 'This looks really familiar,'" Schaake recalled. "And that's before I knew that was Ed's son."
It was Washington quarterback Jake Browning, the son of former Oregon State quarterback Ed Browning, who that year would become one of the top quarterbacks in the nation.
