CORVALLIS — Seth Collins lined up as the Wildcat quarterback, then flipped the ball to Marcus McMaryion before streaking uncovered down the left sideline. McMaryion hit Collins in stride for an easy 46-yard trek to the end zone, sending the Reser Stadium crowd into celebration mode yet again.
As the Beavers built a 21-point lead midway through the second quarter against Washington State, the offense was showcasing both trickeration and balance never previously reached this season. And the defense was clamping down on yet another potent Air Raid attack.
But then what began as arguably the Beavers' best half under Gary Andersen morphed into a #Pac12AfterDark nightmare.
