Ruth Hamblin selected by Dallas Wings with 18th pick in WNBA draft

Former Oregon State standout Ruth Hamblin was selected by the Dallas Wings with the 18th pick in Thursday's WNBA draft.

Hamblin, the two-time Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year, ranked fourth nationally in blocked shots (3.5 per game) while also averaging 11.8 points and 10 rebounds per contest. She was the anchor inside for an OSU team that just capped the best season in school history as the Beavers repeated as Pac-12 regular-season champions, won the conference tournament for the first time and advanced to the Final Four.

The 6-foot-6 Canadian has been OSU coach Scott Rueck's biggest developmental project during his rebuild of the Beavers program into a national contender, as she did not begin playing basketball until high school.
