CORVALLIS - Amid the swirling confusion around Oregon State football last week, Mason Moran received a surprise Friday phone call.
The redshirt freshman and one-time three-star quarterback recruit had faded into the background after spring practice, when Gary Andersen and the coaching staff moved Moran to safety.
But at the end of a week that will be remembered for Andersen's abrupt departure, offensive coordinator Kevin McGiven called Moran to tell the defensive scout teamer about his move back to quarterback.
"It was definitely a shock to me," Moran said.
To make matters more shocking, Moran became the emergency backup option one day later when Oregon State hosted Colorado.
