Oregon State's football comebacks draw headlines, but Beavers would rather start fast

CORVALLIS - Much has been made about Oregon State's resiliency this season and that the Beavers are remarkable when finding themselves in the hole.

The flip side to that is how the Beavers got there. Comebacks don't take place unless a team falls behind. As coach Jonathan Smith said earlier this week about playing for 60 minutes, "it's not just talking about finishing the last 15 minutes, it's about being ready to go the first 15, too."

The first series and first quarter have been an enormous problem for the Beavers this season.

Some facts to ponder:

  • Oregon State hasn't scored a first-quarter point in its past three games.
