CORVALLIS - On the day Oregon State announced Mike Riley's return, Wayne Tinkle saw the new assistant football coach at lunch inside the Valley Football Center.
After exchanging pleasantries, Riley soon brought over his lunch tray to the table where the Beavers men's basketball coach and his staff of assistants were sitting and the group caught up for the first time following Riley's three-year absence from the school.
"Obviously, he's a legend around here and loved by so many," Tinkle said. "An incredible hire by Jonathan (Smith)."
Since Riley departed to become the Nebraska football coach in December 2014, Tinkle's program has gone through dramatic of highs and lows.
