Oregon State football shows promise, but falls again to conclude turbulent week

CORVALLIS - Fred Lauina sat quietly, staring at the sideline turf as teammates belted out the Oregon State fight song behind him.

The senior offensive tackle was alone, motionless as a collection of jet black and bleach blonde braids poked through the bottom of his helmet and draped his uniform and shoulder pads while he faced the sunset behind the forested hills west of Reser Stadium on a cool Saturday afternoon.

It was moments after a 36-33 loss to Colorado, the culmination of a week that started with many of his teammates broken down in tears after learning now former coach Gary Andersen would never lead them again.
