Oregon State football: Jake Luton wins starting QB job, nine true freshmen on Beavers' two-deep, Noah Togiai out at least a month

CORVALLIS -- As spring football came and went, then days and weeks passed during Oregon State’s preseason camp, coach Jonathan Smith relayed a steadfast message regarding the team’s starting quarterback job.

We’re going to let this play out and decide on a starter when we know.

It became clear to Smith and his coaches during the past few days that Jake Luton was the guy. Smith announced Monday that the 6-foot-7 Luton will start the 2018 season opener Saturday at Ohio State.

Luton started four games last season before he was sidelined with a thoracic spine fracture during a game against Washington State.
