One thing is certain: Smith has a different way of going about things at quarterback than his predecessor, Gary Andersen. The former was quick to name a starting quarterback, as he did with Darell Garretson in 2016 and Jake Luton last season. Smith is going to take his time, though it’s apparent Luton enters camp as the frontrunner.
