Oregon State is expected to name Washington co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Jonathan Smith its next football coach, sources close to Smith on Wednesday told The Oregonian/OregonLive.

Smith returns to OSU after previously serving as the Beavers quarterback from 1998-2001 and a graduate assistant from 2002-03. He went on to serve as quarterbacks coach at Idaho (2004-09), offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Montana (2010-11) and quarterbacks coach at Boise State (2012-13) before joining the Washington staff in 2014 under Chris Petersen.

The 38-year-old Smith was a four-year starter at Oregon State and led the offense during the 2000 season, which concluded with an 11-1 record and Fiesta Bowl victory over Notre Dame to mark one of the greatest years in program history.
