CORVALLIS - Just when Xavier Crawford started to become a household name for Oregon State fans, his on-field appearance will change.
The starting cornerback, who emerged as a redshirt freshman in 2016, changed from No. 22 to No. 5 this offseason. He last wore the single-digit number as a high school freshman, but also said he made the switch as a nod to cornerbacks coach Cory Hall.
"I told him I'm going to rock it better than he did," Crawford said with a smile. "... I knew he had it when he got here (in 2016).
