Oregon State can't capitalize late at Minnesota, and despite positives 'a loss is a loss'

MINNEAPOLIS — Devin Chappell sat stone-faced, refusing to entertain any positives from his team's 2016 debut.

Oregon State led a Power 5 opponent on the road heading into the fourth quarter and had a chance to win or tie late in the contest, a virtually nonexistent situation during a 2015 season when the Beavers never triumphed over a major-conference opponent. But the Beavers faded down the stretch, falling 30-23 at TCF Bank Stadium in the opening game of OSU coach Gary Andersen's second season.

"We know we could have won that game," said Chappell, a senior safety and captain who finished with seven tackles and a pass breakup.
