A portion of Oregon State football players on Friday morning began circulating an online petition.

Armed with a goal of 1,000 signatures, the petition aimed to build support for promoting interim head coach Cory Hall into the permanent role.

OSU athletic director Scott Barnes is aware of the petition, which had nearly 500 signatures five hours after posting. Barnes said Friday in a phone interview with The Oregonian/OregonLive that the organized effort affirmed that Hall was the right selection for the job "in this place and time."

"He's made those student-athletes believe in themselves," Barnes said.
