CORVALLIS – Amid a stellar stretch of long-range shooting to start Oregon State's season, something was missing.
Over the course of last season, 6-foot-10 forward Olaf Schaftenaar had the highest three-point shooting percentage on the team (37.6). But as the Beavers entered the year on a hot streak that went upwards of 40 percent from deep, Schaftenaar went only 4-for-17 in the year's first five games.
Part of the reason, Schaftenaar said Friday, could have been that he had been playing with a sprained left ankle. He said he injured the ankle prior to the season opener against Northwest Christian and then aggravated it during the Beavers' 77-69 win at Rice on Nov.
