CORVALLIS -- The second quarter felt like "a beautiful song," Sydney Wiese said, with a flowing offense complementing an airtight defense as Oregon State scored 17 consecutive points to build a big lead on No. 9 Washington.
And yet, the 22nd-ranked Beavers still needed timely buckets, free throws and defensive stops down the stretch in order to clinch a victory.
Such is life in a loaded Pac-12, particularly against a team that can score in bunches like the Huskies. But the Beavers made a big early statement in league play, dominating the first half and then fending off a furious Washington rally to win a wild 73-70 matchup Sunday afternoon at Gill Coliseum.
