For months, the Oregon State Beavers football program had its class headliner in quarterback Spencer Petras, while 247Sports four-star linebacker Matthew Tago was committed to UCLA.
But a lot has changed for both programs of late, as UCLA (Jim Mora to Chip Kelly) and Oregon State (Gary Andersen to Jonathan Smith) have changed coaching staffs, dramatically shifting the recruiting landscape, including the opening of new pathways to a class headliner.
In late November, Tago decommitted from UCLA and reopened his recruitment. A month later, Petras flipped his pledge to the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Fast forward to last weekend, and Tago was on campus at Oregon State, considering the possibility of joining the Beavers, highlighting how truly unpredictable this year's recruiting cycle can be given the first-ever early signing period and multiple Pac-12 coaching changes.
