Mason Moran moving from quarterback to safety for Oregon State Beavers

Oregon State's Mason Moran is switching from quarterback to safety, a source familiar with the situation confirmed to The Oregonian/OregonLive Saturday.

Moran, who redshirted in 2016, had fallen back in the Beavers' quarterback pecking order. He rarely got reps during spring practice while Jake Luton, Marcus McMaryion and Darell Garretson battled for the starting job and Conor Blount worked behind them.

The 6-foot-3, 193-pound Moran was an all-state safety for powerhouse Chandler High School in Arizona, before starting at quarterback his senior season. Rivals rated him as the 18th-best dual-threat quarterback in the 2016 class after he passed for 2,882 yards and 22 touchdowns and rushed for 872 yards and 11 scores his final season.
