CORVALLIS -- Oregon State's corps of linebackers was a popular preseason storyline.
Manase Hungalu is a team captain and the Beavers' most productive returning defensive player. Sack leader Bright Ugwoegbu was coming off a foot injury. Sophomore Andrzej Hughes-Murray and senior Wesley Payne were battling for the starting inside spot next to Hungalu.
Jonathan Willis, a junior and part-time starter throughout his career, has often hovered under the radar. But he put together a performance against Colorado State that coaches deemed "championship level," recording five tackles and displaying versatility and impact against the run.
"There's nothing new to Jonathan," position coach Chad Kauha'aha'a said.
