Jake Luton attempting to become comfortable sliding in wake of season-ending injury

CORVALLIS -- Twice on Monday at a sun-splashed Reser Stadium, Jake Luton darted outside the pocket.

The Oregon State senior quarterback found a first down and got out of bounds during early 11-on-11 work. And as the Beavers' 12th spring practice neared its end, Luton had far less breathing room between the sideline and multiple black jerseys and helmets.

A long-time baseball player, Luton slid to bring his substantial frame to the turf. Out of the many tweaks that OSU players are adding to their skill sets this spring, sliding is among the biggest for the signal-caller coming off a thoracic spine fracture following a scramble on his last play in search of a first down.
